How this was made
Prices. Read on September 23, 2026 directly from each market's official store: the PlayStation Store page for GTA VI in that country, and Microsoft's public store catalog for the Xbox Store. Nothing is estimated or copied from third parties. Each PlayStation price is verified twice - the store's machine value must match the price it displays - and every storefront is checked to be the real country store, because unknown store codes silently fall back to the US store. Prices are list prices; any active discount is flagged in the data, not indexed.
Dollars. Converted at official reference rates for 2026-09-22: the European Central Bank's euro reference rates for 26 currencies, and the issuing central bank or official source for the rest (Banco Central de la República Argentina (official quote); Banco Central de Chile dólar observado (via mindicador.cl); Colombia TRM (Superintendencia Financiera, datos.gov.co); National Bank of Ukraine official rate; Saudi Central Bank fixed peg (3.75 SAR per USD); Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) NT$/US$ closing rate).Honduras and Nicaragua have no official machine-readable rate we could use, so the dollar figures are left blank rather than guessed.
Affordability. Share of a month's pay = the Standard price in US dollars divided by the average monthly earnings of employees in that country (International Labour Organization, ILOSTAT, US$ series, latest year). We use only figures from 2021 or later: Hong Kong, Iceland, Malaysia, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates have no recent ILO figure, so the cell is blank rather than stale. National sources differ - most report a mean, a few a median (Singapore) or cover only the private sector (South Korea) or main cities (Argentina) - so treat this as indicative; each row carries the ILO's own note in the download. The download also includes the price as a share of GNI per capita (World Bank), which covers almost every market.
Read before comparing
- Taxes are not treated the same everywhere - and the two stores differ. Sony's terms for the Americas say PlayStation prices there exclude tax; its terms for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania say prices include it. Microsoft's own catalog data shows Xbox prices with tax already inside in most markets. Of 103 listings: 75 include tax, 12 add it at checkout, and 16 we could not confirm. Each row carries its status and an evidence link in the download.
- Example - Mexico. PlayStation lists MXN 1,378.45, but that is before 16% IVA: MXN 1,599 at checkout. Xbox lists MXN 1,499 with IVA already inside - so Xbox is the cheaper store, the opposite of what the listings suggest.
- After-tax prices are computed only where one national rate is confirmed as added on top (Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Argentina). US and Canadian sales tax varies by state and province, so no single after-tax figure exists there. Argentina may add provincial tax on top.
- 14 storefronts charge in US dollars (much of Latin America on PlayStation, plus Saudi Arabia and the UAE), so the headline price is identical to the US even where local purchasing power is very different.
- Pre-order prices. This is the price before launch. Stores can change prices; each version of this dataset is dated, and we update it when listings change.
- Exchange rates move. The dollar column is a snapshot for 2026-09-22. Local prices are the stable fact.
